Hacksmith started as a way for James, the Hacksmith himself, to show off the engineering projects he was working on in his spare time in his garage. Driven by a desire to make fictional technology real, he started filming his creations and uploading them to YouTube. His dedication paid off, and millions of people tuned in to watch his creations come to life. 

James and Ian, his long time friend and collaborator, founded Hacksmith, the official organization, after James convinced Ian to leave his day job and join up full time to work on projects for the channel.   

Over the years, the company has grown into a global phenomenon, captivating millions of fans with incredible engineering projects.

Over the past few years, Hacksmith moved from James’ garage to a larger commercial and industrial space as the team added members and the scale of projects grew. [HQ1]

In 2022, after years of planning, Hacksmith acquired its permanent headquarters known as “HERC” (Hacksmith Engineering Research Campus, because all cool Sci-Fi headquarters need an acronym). The facility is constantly evolving, and eventually this will be where the company houses a formal video production lab, giant workshops, and even a project museum open to the public.
